SIERRA DE LAS NIEVES
Covering an area of approximately 300 square kilometres, the Sierra de las Nieves National Park is situated behind Marbella and includes the historic town of Ronda.

Although it is a mountainous area - the highest point being La Torecilla at 1919 metres - it also has a wide variety of local produce, including oranges, lemons, avocados, olives, tomatoes, honey and so much more, ensuring the freshest taste to the delicious local cuisine.

The unique Pinsapo de Las Escaleretas, a Spanish fir, has been declared a national monument; there is a chestnunt tree called Castaño Santo that is around 1000 years old; and the area hosts a number of rare and protected species, such as the ibex, mountain cat and golden eagle.

There is an enormous range of wild life: roe deer, wild boar, mouflon sheep, fallow deer, otter, marten, gineta, mongoose.

The Sierra de las Nieves is a paradise for ornithologists with the skylark, the warbler, the red rocker, the red-billed chough, the oriole, the black-capped merlin, the kingfisher, the turtledove, the blue tit, the redstart, the crossbill and, of course, the majestic eagles.

Several groups of bats exist in the Sierra de las Nieves, including the giant noctuum, the largest European bat that lives in the cavities of trees.  Fish species in the rivers include the crayfish and friar fish.
THE ENVIRONMENT

BIRDS OF PREY
Golden Eagle and Bonelli Eagle are natural residents and can often be seen sawing over the road between El Burgo and Ronda.

The road is high above the valley and the eagles can, amazingly, be seen flying at the same level as you.

There is a staggeringly beautiful range of wildlife in Spain´s newest national park.
PINSAPO, FLORA AND FAUNA
The pinsapo de Las Escaleretas, a Spanish fir unique to the Sierra de las Nieves, has been declared a national monument.

There are many holm oaks and, if you are lucky, between June 15 and August 15, you will see, in that short legal period, the cork oaks being harvested.  In October, Yunquera has its lively festival of chestnuts and wine.

Oranges, lemons, avocados, almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, melon, pomegranates, cherimoyas, grapes, cactus fruit - the delicious list goes on and on...
EXPLORE
There is so much to see and do in the Sierra de las Nieves, you will surely return.

So peaceful, so interesting, so visually spectacular and less than an hour from Malaga airport, historic Ronda and the beaches and golf courses on the Costa del Sol.

INVEST
The Sierra de la Nieves National Park is also a great place to invest.

Throughout Europe, property in a national park always comes at a premium, because they are always in areas of outstanding natural beauty and are protected against ugly and unsuitable developments that would damage the natural flora and fauna and destroy its value as a beautiful place to visit and live.

As Spain´s newest national park the expected rise in property values has yet to take hold.  There are still some amazing bargains to be had in the villages of the Sierra de las Nieves National Park.

In Yunquera - a pretty "pueblo blanco" in the mountains - for example, a reasonable condition white-painted traditional townhouse or cottage can still be bought for as little as 50,000 euro.
